May 7th (Wednesday): May Crowning- Please definitely plan to join us for 8:30 Mass this day. The first graders will need to come to school in church clothes with their uniform in a bag. They will bring one single long stemmed flower. In this beautiful ceremony, they will process into church with an 8th grade partner and place flowers at the statue of Mary. One child will be crowning Mary. It’s amazing how quickly the time flies and how fast your sweet little 1st grader becomes the big 8th grader! Everything should conclude by 9:45 or 10.

May 14 (Wednesday): Field Trip to the Zoo- Bus will leave at 11:15 and return by 2:30 ish. Child will need to come with lunch and drink in a large disposable bag. Details will follow closer to the date in a permission slip.

The first graders seem to be enjoying the challenge of Mad Math Minutes. Several have already moved on to the next level. When your child gets three perfect scores, they advance to a tougher test. We will continue doing these once a a week through the end of the year. I know there will be a few who make it to multiplication!!! Yay. Please continue to practice math facts daily, whether in the car, on the computer, or with flash cards at home. Make a fun game of it and keep the interest level high.

Studying for Spelling Tests

One of our moms, Angie Homeyer, was kind enough to “load” all of our first grade spelling lists on to the website, spelling city. Please check out this link. I promise that your child will enjoy using this method to study! This will only include the list of 10 words for the grade. (Each classroom has different Challenge Words.) Simply follow this link to help your child try it out! http://www.spellingcity.com/AJHomeyer
