Student Council is a student run organization representing grades 1-8 that provides monthly service activities throughout the school year. These fun activities involve the whole student body and help create a sense of community within our school family.
The Jr. High cheerleading squad currently is made up of 7th and 8th graders. The girls work very hard to learn their routines and to lead the fans in the fall for girls’ basketball and during the boys’ winter basketball season.
Irish Voices is a choir of 5th – 8th graders from all Springfield Catholic elementary schools. The St. Agnes School choir meets twice a week before school for a half hour. The combined choir sings two concerts a year, Christmas and Spring, at SCHS, on the same program with the elementary bands. All students, band and vocal, are welcome to join.
Students who are interested in playing a musical instrument at all school Mass are welcome to join this group. Students practice weekly before school. Students are expected to practice outside of school hours.
All 7th & 8th grade students are eligible. Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications. In addition, during the day there are open house activities that consist of science and mathematics demonstrations, activities and career counseling sessions conducted by professors and scientists at the host institution occurring concurrently with the events.
Science Olympiad students meet on Mondays from 3:15-4:15 January through March. The regional competition is held at Missouri State University and the state competition is held at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Math Olympiad is composed of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who meet for practice and contests Wednesday from 3:30-4:30. We also take a team of 12 (4, 5, and 6th) to the annual MCTM Elementary Student Math Regional Contest in the Spring held at Drury University.
All seventh and eighth grade students are eligible for this group. They meet for competition preparation on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:00 throughout the year.
Math Olympiad
A worldwide math competition offered at both the elementary and middle school level which is composed of a series of five monthly contests of 5 problems each taken from November to March. Scores are cumulative.
Math Counts format “warm-up” competition hosted by the math department at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO. Two alternate dates are offered, typically one Saturday in January or one Saturday in February.
Math Counts
Math Counts is a national coaching and competition program sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers which is designed to stimulate 7th and 8th grade students’ interest and achievement in mathematics. Regional competitions are held on a Saturday in February. State level competitions are typically held on a Saturday in March with Nationals on a weekend in May.
Missouri Mathematics League
A state-wide grade level competition given to every 7th and 8th grade student in the classroom in late February. Top five individual scores are totaled and submitted as a team score.
Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics
A Junior High level competition with regional contests at selected sites across the state on a Saturday in March and April. Those teams advancing to state compete on the last Saturday in April.
College of the Ozarks
A junior high level math competition offered to area schools by the math department of the College of the Ozarks in Hollister, MO. Takes place during a school day in March or April.
