Bienvenidos al Program de Español en Santa Ines! 

                                                          Welcome to St. Agnes' Spanish Program!

Dear, St. Agnes Families:

What an exciting year this will be! We welcome all the new families to St. Agnes School! This year, Spanish classes include the 6th grade!

Class Schedule
Spanish classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays days:
4th grade: 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
5th grade: 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
2th grade: 9:30 a.m. -10:00 a.m.
3rd grade: 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
6th
grade: 1:00 p.m. -1:30 p.m.
K: 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
1st grade: 2:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Catholic Identity
We pray the Ave Maria in grades 1st-6th. We pray the Padre Nuestro/Lord's Prayer in Kindergarten. Go to 'Foreign Language' on the homepage for these prayers, including the Angelus, and Giving Thanks for Meals, in Spanish.

Spanish Textbook - 'Pablo y sus amigos!'
We will continue to use the textbook, Pablo y sus amigos, a combined textbook/workbook. The 1st grade children have received Book B textbook-workbook this year. The 2nd graders received a new textbook/workbook Book C. They will also use last years textbook Book B, as a continuous review. Grades 3rd through 6th will continue using last years textbook/workbook, Book C.

Thematic Units & Hispanic Culture
Thematic units will be emphasized, such as The House, The Living Room, The Kitchen, The Garden, Shapes, The School, My Day, to mention a few.  In the area of Hispanic Culture: Hispanic Heritage Month, Day of the Children, Hispanic Saints, Day of the Dead, Feast of Our Lady of the Guadalupe, Posadas, etc, are just some mentioned that will be included in the lessons.

Scholastic CLUB Leo
Objective: to reinforce reading skills in Spanish and motivate interest in reading overall.
In Spanish classes this semester, we will be reading aloud, during La Hora de Cuento, a pre-selected book from the Scholastic Spanish Club Leo (I read Spanish Book Club!)Every child from grades K-3 will read, 'Dragon y sus labores' (Dragon Gets By) and 4th to 6th will read, 'El Cuerpo' (Your Body). Maestra Kilmer will guide them in their reading enabling all to read together, or in groups, in pairs, and/or silent reading.  When we have finished with the book, your child will take his/her book home.

 

*Study and Prepare Assignments
Grade 3-6: Go to St. Agnes homepage, click on 'Foreign Language', then scroll down and click on Study and Prepare Assignments.
Grade 1-2: Class Participation -the participation grade is based on both the quantity and the quality of the students participation. Quality is determined by active participation in class activities, by coming to class with the textbook, by volunteering, by being prepared when called on, and by listening attentively when others are speaking.

NOTE: Members will unite on Tues., Oct 28th from 3:15-4:15p.m., to set up the Day of the Dead "ofrenda" (altar). Reminders will be sent home shortly.
