Eighth Grade Homeroom and Language Arts for 5th through 8th grade
Homeroom Important Information
Nov. 7th- Buyout is for Thanksgiving baskets- Check mailbag
for the food item your child needs to bring. We will
be delivering Thanksgiving baskets to a few families in
need.
Nov. 7th - 1:30 dismissal for faculty meeting
Nov. 14th- 8th grade mass
Nov. 26th through the 30th- Thanksgiving Break
Dec. 8th - Feast of the Immaculate Conception - NO SCHOOL
Dec. 11th - Reconciliation
Dec. 23rd- 12:00 dismissal for Christmas Break
Eighth Grade-
We are beginning with Morality in religion for the first
half of the year and we will study Church History for the
second half of the year. The fourth chapter of
religion is based on evangelizing and living a life
following Christ. We are learning to work together, put
aside differences and recognize common goals within the
church.
We are beginning the novel by Harper Lee called To Kill a
Mockingbird. This novel has many themes in it
including racial prejudice, gender bias, social injustice,
and many symbols that represent people in the story.
In Grammar students are learning about Adjectives
and Adverbs. This chapter will be followed by
the use of prepositions.
Seventh Grade-In literature
students are reading The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.
We are discussing the writing style and the ideas of the
late 1800's. Test questions and project are due by Nov.
10th. In grammar we are identifying adjectives
and adverbs.
Sixth Grade-The sixth grade is
reading The Circuit which is a story about a boy and his
family that travel constantly based on what is in season for
picking. The boy faces many hardships. We have
finished the adjective and adverb chapter in grammar and we
are starting on prepositions.
Fifth Grade-The fifth
grade is finished with the first theme titled Natures Fury.
Theme tests have been completed and will be sent home.
We will begin the 2nd them titled Give It All You've Got.
In grammar the fifth grade is working on following and
giving directions. We are completing a yarn project
while following step by step directions. Students will
then practice writing and giving directions for other tasks.
