Grade News
This
is my last newsletter as first grade teacher at St. Joseph.
This summer I am moving back home (West Virginia) to be closer to my
family. I was blessed to end my
career here with a wonderful class.
We’ve had a great year and I want to thank you for all the time you
have spent practicing spelling words and working with your child. I want to
give a special thank you to Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Colvin for being wonderful
and supportive homeroom moms.
They went above and beyond their duty.
Math
– We will be using a
balance to compare weight. We
will also discuss the weight in pounds, grams, and kilograms.
We will also estimate and measure capacity using nonstandard units,
cup, pint, quart, and liter.
Reading
– Our next story is Two Greedy Bears.
We will be working on the following skills:
comprehension, high frequency vocabulary words, phonics, making
predictions, and math words.
Spelling
– This is our last spelling test!
This is also the last week for homework.
Religion –
We will study how the Holy Spirit
gives us strength when we are afraid or scared.
We will also be practicing for our Mass on the last day of school.
Readings will be coming home soon.
Science –
We will discuss seeds
and what they need to grow. We
will also discuss the parts of a plant.
Social Studies -
The last couple of
weeks we will be studying dinosaurs.
One of our activities will be making a diorama.
Please send a shoe box with your child by next Friday.
If you have extra shoe boxes we would love to have them. Your child
is welcome to share their books or videos about dinosaurs during class.
